ABRS Tests

Anyone (aged 5 or over) interested in taking the ABRS Equitation Test 1 or Test A.

You must be a regular rider at Houston. We will carry out test preparation and a “mock test”, on Thursday October 14th, costing £11. The actual ABRS test will be held on Thursday 21st October and costs £13.50. All successful candidates will receive an ABRS Certificate.

Equitation Test A

• Rider’s position at the halt
• Know & apply the aids for walk
• Ride with a leader on the track at walk
• Know & apply the aids for halt
• Dismount (rider may be assisted)
• Know 3 parts of the saddle & bridle
• Rider’s position, balance & application of the aids

• How the rider made a partnership/rapport with the horse/pony.

ABRS

Equitation Test 1

• Check and adjust the girth – dismounted.
• Check and adjust the stirrups – dismounted.
• Prepare for mounting and mount from a mounting block (assistant may hold the horse if necessary).
• Know how to shorten and lengthen the reins.
• Rider’s position at halt. 6. Ride from halt to walk.
• Ride a set course at walk to include left and right turns.
• Ride from walk to halt.
• Dismount, run up the stirrups, ease the girth and prepare to lead in hand.
• Lead in hand.
• Rider’s position, balance and application of the aids.
• How the rider made a partnership/rapport with the horse/pony.
