Houston Farm Riding School

The auction is being held to help gain funds for medical volunteer Dr David Mazza who specialises in palliative care. He is urgently needed to help ease the pain and suffering in Delhi, India.

David's thoughts on going to India

Going to work in India seems right somehow. There is little or no care for people with terminal. illness, and many people die in terrible pain. I just hope that, In a small way, I can do something about that, by sharing all the medical skills I've learnt here with people who really need them.

I'rn very excited about the year to come. My wife and I will both be giving up our jobs and selling our house, and with our young daughter we'll be starting something completely new, so it's a little daunting. But we've wanted to do this ever since I qualified, so it's, a wonderful opportunity.

As is the case for all our volunteers, he will be leaving behind the comforts of home life, and his, normal UK salary, for a year of low local wages and basic living conditions. There will be few material rewards for this volunteering mission. However, we expect great fulfilment will be gained from bringing better care and new hope to people who really need it.

VSO has been sharing all sorts of skills with the developing world for 42 years. As a charity we depend on public donations to meet the costs of identifying communities in need of help, in Asia, Africa, the Caribbean and Eastern Europe. We appeal for donations to recruit professionally qualified and motivated volunteers, and to provide all the support they need to see the job through.

CANSUP, where the volunteer will work, is a small medical charity in one of the poorest parts of Delhi, A dedicated team of health workers goes to visit severely ill patients in their own homes as well as at a local hospital, They want to reach more people in need, and to improve their skills so that they can offer the very best care possible.

The VSO volunteer will work alongside the local team, visiting patients to give much-needed expert care. He will also train CANSUP staff, teaching them improved techniques to help ease people's pain and make their lives worth living once more.
